The proposed extensions by reason of the form, mass and design would be incompatible with the original dwelling and the character and appearance of the area detrimental to the character and visual amenity of the area. The proposed development would therefore be contrary to Policy CS2 of the Charnwood Local Plan Core Strategy (2015) and saved Policies EV/1 and H/17 of the Borough of Charnwood Local Plan and the House Extensions SPG (2004) which seek amongst other things to ensure that development does not cause harm to the character and appearance of the area. The proposal is also considered to be development of poor design that fails to improve the character and quality of the area and should therefore be refused in accordance with paragraph 130 of the National Planning Policy Framework.
