The proposal would warrant the removal of a significant Norway Spruce tree which is unmarked on the submitted plans. The tree is in a sound and healthy condition and, by reason of its prominent location, contributes significantly to the appearance and character of the area. The local planning authority is not satisfied that there are any reasons for its removal that are sufficient to over-ride the importance of retaining this amenity role. If planning permission were granted for the extension that resulted in the felling of the tree, it would set an undesirable precedent making it difficult to resist similar requests to fell other trees in the vicinity, to the overall disadvantage of the locality. The proposal is therefore contrary to Policy CS2 of the Charnwood Local Plan 2011-2028 Core Strategy and Policy EV/1 of the Borough of Charnwood Local Plan.
