The local authority considers that, by reason of the location of the proposed single storey side extension, the trees to the north of the application site would be significantly damaged and most probably lost. These trees are in a sound and healthy condition and contribute to the appearance and character of this part of the designated conservation area. The local planning authority is not satisfied that there are any reasons for the removal of these trees which may be sufficient to over-ride the retention of their important amenity role. If consent were to be granted for such works to be carried out to the detriment of the trees, it would set an undesirable precedent making it difficult to resist similar requests that would impact on other trees in the vicinity, to the overall disadvantage of the locality. The proposal is thereby contrary to paragraph 2.12 of national Planning Policy Guidance Note 15 - Planning and the Historic Environment.
