The local planning authority considers that, due to its prominent position forward of other buildings and its' design and materials that would not be in sympathy with surrounding buildings, the garage would appear as an intrusive and incongruous feature within the street scene, to the detriment of visual amenity and the character of the area. For this reason the proposal is contrary to Policy H/17 of the Borough of Charnwood Local Plan (Adopted January 2004), which requires that such development is not intrusive or incongruous in the street scene, and similar advice in the Borough Council's adopted Supplementary Planning Guidance on House Extensions.
